Donna Riordan (JD)(Hons) is the Principal of Legal I Law firm. Donna is a Canberra local with extensive experience in Government and the Law. Donna was formerly a Detective with the Australian Federal Police, working in the Criminal Investigations Branch. Before settling into law, Donna was employed in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) (16 years) managing a team working to detect and prevent fraud in the Passports application systems, posted as a diplomat and managing and delivering public diplomacy programs.
Donna has extensive Government administrative law experience with a focus on complex passports legislation and litigation issues, consular and diplomatic immunity issues and supporting the Timor Taskforce litigation team (DFAT), advising on land and litigation issues relevant to Aboriginal land rights, native title, Indigenous funding and Commonwealth grants (PM&C), advising on legal issues relevant to Commonwealth and ACT Ombudsman legislation and investigations including reportable conduct legislation and developing legal policy and education delivery relevant to Biosecurity legislation (Agriculture).
Donna is admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the ACT Supreme Court and holds a current Unrestricted Practicing Certificate issued by the ACT Law Society.
While completing a Masters in Juris Doctor (Honors) at University of Canberra, Donna was awarded a Deans Excellence Award – (Academic Achievement) School of Law. Continuing legal study saw her achieve a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (Commendation) at Australian National University. Donna also holds a Graduate Certificate in Public Sector Administration, and a Diploma of Government (Fraud Control Investigations) Charles Sturt University.
